I’m not a big fan of on-line quizzes

…but I finally took the “Find-your-ideal-candidate” one that John Deeth, State29 and others had recommended. It turns out my best matched presidential candidate for 2008 is …Dennis Kucinich! … Ha ha ha. Just kidding. Actually, DK came in at a 12.9% match and I’m surprised we are that close. There were no questions such as, ‘Do women find you attractive?’ so our nearly thirteen percent sympaticoness remains a mystery.

There actually were questions such as, ‘[Do you support] military action against Iran? Yes-No-Unsure’, followed by ‘[How important is this issue to you?] High-Medium-Low.

Well. I certainly find this issue to be high in importance but not amenable to an easy answer. Military action should never be taken off the table but must be used only after extreme provocation and after all other diplomatic efforts to resolve differences have failed. I could only mark my answer sheet as “Unsure – High importance”

It turns out that my highly nuanced position on the issue was disregarded in the determination of my ideal candidate. This is why I don’t usually bother with on-line quizzes.

Another issue was ‘Do you support abortion rights? Yes-No-Unsure’. Since I don’t always support nor do I always oppose them, I had to answer ‘Unsure’. This may have resulted in a perfect match with my #1 candidate on this question, come to think of it.

And who was my ideal candidate, you ask? It turns out I agree with Mitt Romney 92.74% of the time. Others I’m close to are Duncan Hunter, Tom Tancredo and Fred Thompson. R. Paul came in at about 50%. That last one was a bit of a surprise as I was actually one of the 431,750 people to cast a vote for him back in 1988. Ron has a lot of good ideas, but he’s gone seriously off the reservation in terms of national security and his supporters are obnoxious.

Anyhow, if you are still trying to sort out where the various candidates stand relative to your position, you might want to give this quiz a try.
