The crowd--I live in a middle-of-the-road, non-elite area--loved it. The four high school choirs perform separately, and then at the end, they combine in a single large choir for a couple of songs. Most of the music sung is classical; lots of it is religious, often in Latin. As I said, the quality is high.
I’m glad to hear this. I hope they get away with it and I hope every public school system in the country has a genuine old fashioned Christmas concert next year. Meanwhile, go to Powerline, read the post that inspired this one, and listen to the included audio of Battle Hymn of the Republic. It is awesome.
If Ms Ditto still reads us, I’d be curious what her experience with religious expression – even as part of historical events – in public education has been. If I hear anything, I’ll pass it on.
Go to Powerlineblog. Listen. Enjoy.
